How to Purchase Reliable Fertilizer Products

First, choose legitimate channels. Purchase fertilizer products from reputable merchants with valid licenses and permits. Be sure to keep invoices or other proof of purchase, product samples, packaging, instructions, warning labels, the seller’s written commitment, and promotional materials.
Second, “examine” the product packaging. Verify the fertilizer name, nutrient content, net weight, and applicable standards on the packaging. Check for a production license number, fertilizer registration number (for products subject to fertilizer registration), or filing number, as well as any registered trademarks. Ensure that the names, addresses, and contact information of the manufacturer and seller are accurate. Do not blindly trust false or exaggerated claims on product packaging or in advertisements.
Third, “calculate” the cost per nutrient. When purchasing fertilizer, do not consider only the price of the product itself. Instead, calculate whether it is cost-effective based on the net content (actual weight) and the levels of the three primary nutrients—nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
Fourth, use fertilizer effectively. Select chemical fertilizer products appropriately and apply them scientifically based on the type of crop being grown, soil conditions, and factors such as weather and irrigation.
