Microbial Fertilizers (Bacterial Fertilizers)
Microbial fertilizers, commonly known as “bacterial fertilizers,” are prepared by artificially selecting and propagating beneficial microorganisms isolated from the soil; they serve as supplementary fertilizers.
Through the metabolic activities of the microorganisms they contain, these products increase the supply of plant nutrients in the soil and the growing environment. They also produce plant growth hormones, promote plant growth and development, inhibit the activity of harmful microorganisms, and enhance plants’ disease resistance, thereby achieving the goals of increasing yields and improving quality.
The effectiveness of microbial fertilizers depends primarily on the quantity and activity of the microorganisms in the formulation; their performance is also influenced by external environmental factors such as light, temperature, moisture, pH, and organic matter content.
Microbial fertilizers primarily provide beneficial microbial colonies rather than mineral nutrients; they are used in small quantities, typically 500–1,000 grams of microbial inoculant per mu.
Due to limitations in microbial activity, the shelf life of microbial fertilizers is generally 3 months to 1 year. Furthermore, since microorganisms cannot be observed with the naked eye, the quality of microbial fertilizers can only be determined through instrumental analysis.
